Yesterday I stirred up a bit of controversy with the comment that David Jones’ new online store had missed the point of online retail in that it didn’t offer better value to its customers.
Some people reported this pretty much straight for what it was – a fact itwire.com.au and smarthouse.com.au
But some people actually questioned if shoppers online were looking for better deals.
One journalist even suggested that because people “trusted” David Jones not only would they happily pay the same online for same goods bought in store, they’d be prepared to pay more!
In my experience, online shoppers absolutely would not pay more, regardless of reputation.
I think in times when everyone is looking at their own bottom line, they are going to want the best deal no matter what.
If you’re online, you’re already aware that online is the best place to shop.
My commitment to my existing and new customers is that I will always seek the best consumer electronics products and offer them at the best prices possible.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the David Jones online store, and if you would in fact be prepared to pay more for a product bought online than you would from the same retailer in a physical shop front.
